Link: Erdős–Bacon number

An individual’s Erdős–Bacon number is the sum of one’s Erdős number—which measures the “collaborative distance” in authoring mathematical papers between that individual and Hungarian mathematician Paul Erdős—and one’s Bacon number—which represents the number of links, through roles in films, by which the individual is separated from actor Kevin Bacon.

I took a math seminar my senior year in college with Dave Bayer, who has an Erdős-Bacon number of 4. We studied “Word Processing in Groups”, which I think was a little over my head.

I almost took a class from Brian Greene, who has an Erdős–Bacon of 5, but I didn’t for some reason I can’t remember. I think his class had more physics and less math than I wanted.
