I just came across an interesting idea recently while reading the comments on Jalopnik, one of the Gawker sites. They're apparently working on a Facebook app for their comments system - that way, when you comment on one of their sites and stories, your friends on Facebook can know about it.

I thought that was a pretty clever idea, especially as walled-garden social bookmarking as practiced by the NY Times doesn't really serve much of a purpose.

But EC2+S3 for Facebook apps definitely kills multiple birds with one stone, and finally comes up with a cohesive argument for why someone would need all that Amazonian scalability.
