Oscar Picks enables you to pick Academy Award nominees and share your top picks with your friends. The application also broadcasts top vote-getters in each of the major categories to its Twitter account (@oscar_picks).
The picks of our users were extremely accurate in 2009; collectively, we were able to correctly predict the winner of every major award.
Oscar Picks was built using PHP and MySQL. It originated as a Facebook application in 2009 but we rewrote it as a stand-alone Web site in 2010. It uses Twitter authentication, Google Charts for statistics, memcached, and the PHP framework CodeIgniter.
